A journal quilt--I found these beads on our trip to Cape May, NJ in September and wanted to try a thread stitched tree. It was fun!

Mushroom Quilt

Mushrooms, anyone? This is my current piece. It was supposed to be a journal quilt, but since I had to back out after I got too far behind, now I can make it larger. It's based on a photo I took. Since I took this picture, I've attached the mushroom caps. Next, I'll bead it and then I'm going to "mount" it on a quilted black background. The edges will be zig-zag finished in a fashion I learned in a Sue Benner workshop. Posted by Picasa

My art quilt critique group, Q&A Quiltartists, www.quiltartists.com, recently divided up a picture of this museum into 16 pieces. Our requirement was to make a 15-inch quilted version of our picture segment. This was my part of the picture.
This is how I interpreted my part of the picture. The two large sections were quilted separately and intertwined, then attached to the piece with more quitling. The narrow silver lame strips in the upper right are bias tubes that are only attached at the ends. The black piece has a reverse applique slit to reveal the blue & pink spiral sky behind. The other black sections have a bit of beading. Fifteen inches square.

Accepted in I Remember Mama at Houston!

Woowoo! Got my notification that I've been accepted into the I Remember Mama exhibition, one of 60 works accepted. OK, they probably only got 60, but still, I'm going to Houston!

It's the third and final year for the I Remember Mama exhibition, and the first one that I entered. The quilts were to depict the quiltmaker's mother/mother figure/grandmother as a mother. Unfortunately, I can't publish a picture of the work, but as soon as I can, I'll publish a picture here.

Well, now on to the next piece of work; among other things, I'm working on a self portrait for Quilt Art magazine.
